Biographical Information[edit]

After playing college baseball at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, pitcher Dean Treanor spent 1975-1988 as a police officer, undercover narcotics agent, and investigator in San Luis Obispo, California.

His bio on the Albuquerque Isotopes website claimed that he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 1971 and made it as far as AA in 1975 before retiring with a shoulder injury but there does not appear to be any record of him pitching in the minors except for a couple appearances on the hill during his managerial career in the 1980s and 1990s, so this might be either an error on the website or resume inflation. There is no evidence to support this claim on the Albuquerque Isotopes website, as the Baseball Guides of the era do not list Treanor as playing nor does Pat Doyle's Professional Baseball Player Database.

In 1988, he returned to baseball as skipper of the Fresno Suns of the California League and led the team to a 53-89 record. He was loaned by the Cleveland Indians to the Miami Miracle to begin 1989, but when the Indians broke their non-binding agreeent with Miami in May, they reassigned him as a coach for the GCL Indians. He then managed the GCL Indians the next year. He was the pitching coach for the Reno Silver Sox in 1991. Treanor then spent time coaching in the San Diego Padres (1992-1995), Montreal Expos (1996-1998), and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. He was pitching coach for the Waterloo Diamonds in 1992-1993, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 1994, Memphis Chicks in 1995, Delmarva Shorebirds in 1996, Harrisburg Senators in 1997, Ottawa Lynx in 1998, San Antonio Missions in 1999, Albuquerque Dukes in 2000 and Las Vegas 51s in 2001.

In 2002, Treanor joined the Florida Marlins organization as manager of the Calgary Cannons of the Pacific Coast League, and he remained with the club when they moved and became the Albuquerque Isotopes the following year. In 2004, he was a minor league pitching coach in the Marlins organization before guiding the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League that season. He began a second stint as the Isotopes skipper in 2005.

Treanor was pitching coach of the Altoona Curve in 2009 and Indianapolis Indians in 2010. In addition to his career in the United States, Treanor has been successful as a manager in the Winter Leagues. He briefly managed the Leones del Escogido in the mid-2000s, then took the Toros del Este to the 2011 Caribbean Series after they won only the second Dominican League title in franchise history.

In 2017, he was named bullpen coach of the Miami Marlins, staying until the end of the 2019 season.
