2011 Caribbean Series

The 2011 Caribbean Series (Serie del Caribe) was the forty-first edition of the second stage of the Caribbean Series. It was held at Estadio Isidoro Garcia in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The series featured four teams from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Venezuela. The Yaquis de Obregón won the Series and were managed by Eddy Díaz. The Most Valuable Player was Jorge Vázquez, the first baseman for Obregón.

Teams[edit]

The Toros del Este won the Dominican League title in a five game sweep. They made only their second appearance in the Series, the first coming in the 1995 Caribbean Series. They were managed by Dean Treanor.

The Caribes de Anzoátegui took the Venezuelan League title for the first time in team history, winning in seven games. This year marked their first appearance in the Caribbean Series. Julio Franco was their skipper.

The Criollos de Caguas won their 15th Puerto Rican League title this year. In spite of their glorious history, they last played in the 2003 Caribbean Series, when Puerto Rico fielded two teams because the Venezuelan League was on strike. They won the 1987 Caribbean Series. Lino Rivera was their skipper, having previously piloted Gigantes de Carolina in a couple of Caribbean Series.

The Yaquis de Obregón won their 5th Mexican Pacific League title in 2010-2011, and returned to the Series after last playing in it in the 2009 Caribbean Series. They were managed by Eddy Díaz.
