2004 Caribbean Series
The 2004 Caribbean Series (Serie del Caribe) was the thirtieth-fourth edition of the second stage of the Caribbean Series. It was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from February 1 to February 8. The series featured four teams from Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. The Tigres del Licey of the Dominican League won the series (their 9th title) and were managed by Manny Acta. The Most Valuable Player was Francis Beltrán, a pitcher with the Tigres del Licey.
The Series was a dramatic one as 4 of the 12 games went to extra innings and 10 were decided by two runs or less.
Licey's roster included Jose Jimenez (1-0, 0.00), Rafael Roque (1.80), Rafael Soriano (1-0, 2.92), Guillermo Mota, Francis Beltran, Mendy Lopez, Abraham Nunez, John Buck (.353), Izzy Alcantara (.348), David Ortiz (.300), Rafael Furcal (.263), Jose Offerman (.263, 5 RBI), Miguel Tejada and Brandon Marsters (who drove in the winner in the finale).
Carlos Rivera led the Series with a .364 average for last-place Ponce, while Luis Ayala was 1-0 with 2 saves and a 0.00 in 4 appearances for Culiacan.
