Biographical Information[edit]
Rafael Roque was a surprising Opening Day starter for the Milwaukee Brewers on April 5, 1999 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He only had two months of experience in the majors at that point, having gone 4-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 9 starts in 1998. The Brewers expected him to develop into an ace, but he only pitched 2 innings in that Opening Day start, walking 5, and was out of the starting rotation by mid-May, having gone 0-4, 6.35 in 8 starts. He made only one more start that season, on June 18th, and finished at 1-6, 5.34 in 43 games, with 1 save. In 2000, he started the season in the minors and pitched only 4 games in the big leagues, in August and September, putting up a 10.13 ERA in 5 1/3 innings with no decisions. These were his last appearances in the Show. He later became a minor league pitching coach.
