Biographical Information

Dave Jauss was the head baseball coach at Westfield State College in 1982-1984, and Atlantic Christian College in 1985-1987. He was then a manager for the GCL Expos in 1988, coach for the West Palm Beach Expos in 1989-1991, and manager for West Palm Beach in 1992 and Harrisburg Senators in 1994.

Jauss was the Baltimore Orioles' coordinator of Minor League instruction in 1995. He was then the first base coach for the Boston Red Sox from 1997 to 1999, a bench coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2006 to 2007, and was the bench coach for the Orioles in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he occupied the same functions for the New York Mets. Jauss has also spent time as a Red Sox scout. From 2013 to 2019, he was a coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates, including a stint as bench coach in 2016.

In 2021, he returned to the coaching ranks as bench coach of the New York Mets under manager Luis Rojas. Jauss was an old friend of Rojas's father, Felipe Alou, the two having worked together back in the Expos' organization when Alou was the manager at West Palm Beach and Jauss a coach there. Jauss got some rare air time at the 2021 All-Star Game when he served as Pete Alonso's pitcher as the Mets slugger successfully his title in the Home Run Derby. Jauss was a big part of Alonso's success, as he seemed to be effortlessly capable of sending pitch after pitch exactly into Alonso's power zone for him to crush the ball deep into the stands. He left the team at the end of the season, along with Rojas whose contract was not renewed.

His son DJ Jauss was drafted and later played in Germany.
