Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Buck Britton was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 35th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He played in the Orioles' chain through 2014 and in the minor leagues through 2016, spending parts of 6 seasons in AAA. Britton collected the first hit in Oklahoma City Dodgers history.
Britton became a hitting coach with the Delmarva Shorebirds in 2017 and the Orioles promoted him to manager of the team in 2018. The next year proved to be an eventful year for Britton, one he likened "to four years of college in one semester."[1] Britton managed the Bowie Baysox that year and the team started in a terrible slump before rallying to secure a playoff berth. After the season, Britton headed to the Dominican Republic to work as a Quality Control Coach for the Leones del Escogido in the Dominican League. Under Jayce Tingler's leadership, the Chosen got off to a 9-1 start. However, Tingler left the team on October 24th after being named the new manager of the San Diego Padres and Britton was appointed to replace him. After going 15-22, Britton was fired on December 15th.[2] Britton was scheduled to manage Bowie again in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He did manage Bowie in 2021 before managing the Norfolk Tides from 2022-2024. Britton led the Tides to a 90-59 record in 2023 and to their first International League Championship since 1985 and second Triple-A Baseball National Championship. For his efforts, Britton was named the International League Manager of the Year.
The Orioles promoted Britton to the major league staff in 2025 with the title of Major League Coach.
Britton's younger brother is pitcher Zack Britton [3].
