Biographical information[edit]
Relief pitcher Edgar Alfonzo is the son of Edgar Alfonzo and nephew of Edgardo Alfonzo and Roberto Alfonzo. His career in summer league ball ended after the 2009 campaign, finishing with an overall record of 16-19 with 7 saves. Alfonzo Jr. continued to play in his native country for many years in the Venezuelan League. His brother, Giovanny Alfonzo has also played in the minors.
The Tampa Bay Rays hired Alfonzo in 2023 as an assistant pitching coach for the DSL Rays, a position he returned to in 2024.
