Biographical Information[edit]
Three teams drafted Luis Alvarado to play professionally for them. The Boston Red Sox first drafted Alvarado in the 33rd round of the 2014 Amateur Draft from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, but he opted to attend the University of Nebraska instead. The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 13th round after his junior year. He finally signed with the Los Angeles Angels after they drafted him in the 17th round of the 2018 Amateur Draft and he played in their minor league system from 2018-2021. Although he both pitched and played outfield in college, with the Angels he was used exclusively as a pitcher. In his three minor league seasons he had a record of 7-13 with 2 saves and an ERA of 4.40. Alvarado pitched mostly in relief, starting only 18 games in his career. In his final season Alvarado played for the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils.
The New York Mets hired Alvarado in 2023 as a pitching instructor for the FCL Mets. He returned to the FCL Mets in 2024, this time as the team's pitching coach.
