Biographical Information[edit]
Roy Lee "Red" Smith was a minor league catcher/manager who managed the Alexandria Aces in 1950 and 1956 and the New Iberia Pelicans in 1955.
Smith later scouted for the California Angels (1968-1969, 1974-1977) and Montreal Expos (1970-1973).
In the off-season, Smith was an engineer with the Texas & Pacific Railroad. He was given annual six-month leaves of absence so he could remain in organized baseball. In 1957, however, he was informed that he would lose his seniority if he didn't return to work by July 15th, so he left his managing job.
