Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Bob Betz played in the minor leagues on and off from 1948 to 1957. He began his career with a .305 batting average between two teams in 1948, then had a breakout campaign the next year. In 133 games with the Youngstown A's, he hit .345 with 18 home runs and a .545 slugging percentage to lead the Middle Atlantic League in batting average, hits (181, tied with Spider Wilhelm) and RBI (135). He never again reached such numbers, though he batted .318 in 124 games for the Savannah Indians in 1951.

He served in World War II, earning a Purple Heart and a Silver Star.
