Santiago, or more formally Santiago de los Caballeros (Saint James of the Horsemen, after its thirty founders) is a city in the Cibao Valley of the northern Dominican Republic and is the capital of Santiago province. It is the second largest city in the country, after the capital, Santo Domingo, and is one of the oldest cities in the new world, having been founded in 1495. It is located 30 miles south of Puerto Plata.
