Biographical Information[edit]

Melvin Jiménez peaked at AA and made the Dominican national team.

Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, he had a fine pro debut for the 2016 DSL Dodgers 1 at 4-3, 1.47 with 66 K in 55 IP, allowing a .181 average. He tied Ricardo Smith for 7th in the Dominican Summer League iun strikeouts and would've been 9th in ERA had he qualified. [1] In '17, the youngster came stateside and pitched for the AZL Dodgers (1-0, 1.64 in 5 G) and Great Lakes Loons (2-1, Sv, 2.57 in 9 G), fanning 54 in 39 IP overall.

Jiménez split 2018 between the same two teams but was less effective. While he was 2-0 with four shutout innings for the AZL Dodgers, he was 3-7 with four saves and a 4.22 ERA in his 28 games for the Loons. He split 2019 between the Ogden Raptors (5-0, 2.25 in 10 G) and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (2-0, 2 Sv, 3.52 in 19 G), whiffing 89 in 50 2/3 innings for the summer. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Returning in '21, he pitched for the Loons (2-2, 3 Sv, 4.35 in 30 G) and the Tulsa Drillers (0-2, 20.52 in 6 G). He was 1-0 with a 10.57 ERA in another rough stint (8 G) for the 2022 Drillers to end his minor league career at 22-15, 3.79 with 10 saves. That winter, he was 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA between two Colombian League teams. He still made the Dominican roster for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, though he did not make it into a game. [2]
