Edilson Alvarez spent 11 seasons in professional baseball.
Beginning his career at 17 years old, he played in the Minnesota Twins system from 2006 to 2009 and spent the first three of those seasons with the DSL Twins. In 2009, he played for the GCL Twins. He was 5-1 with 7 saves, a 0.897 WHIP and a 0.78 ERA in 2007; his ERA was among the best in the league, beating the marks of Kelvin Herrera (0.84) and Alexi Ogando (0.96). He tied for second in the league with 15 saves in 2008. After not playing from 2010 to 2012, he joined the independent ranks for 2013. He remained at that level through 2019. He had considerable success in the Pecos League, posting an 8-1 record and 2.05 ERA in 79 innings for the Las Vegas Train Robbers in 2013, despite the league ERA being 6.18; he led the circuit in ERA. With the Bakersfield Train Robbers in 2019, he had a 2.69 mark (league ERA of 6.54) to again lead the league. He also had a solid year with the Aigles de Trois-Rivières of the Canadian-American Association in 2016, going 6-5 with a 2.67 ERA in 29 games (12 starts). He last played in 2019.
In the affiliated minors, he was 10-9 with a 2.34 ERA in 82 games (5 starts). In indy ball, he was 44-45 with a 3.65 ERA in 162 games (102 starts). Overall, he went 54-54 with a 3.44 mark in 244 games (107 starts). He set numerous Pecos League career records, including for innings (245), complete games (16) and strikeouts (242). At the plate, he hit .281/.312/.404 with 2 home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored in 114 at-bats.
He managed the Monterey Amberjacks for the latter part of the 2018 campaign, replacing Chuck Rocker. They went 5-8 under his leadership. He managed the Train Robbers in 2019, leading them to a 37-26, 2nd-place finish. They lost in the league finals to the Alpine Cowboys.
