Biographical Information[edit]

Tetelito Vargas was a star Dominican outfielder of the 1940s-1950s.

He played for the Dominican national team in the 1941 Amateur World Series, 1942 Amateur World Series (Silver Medal) and 1943 Amateur World Series. He won Bronze in the 1944 Amateur World Series, hitting .421/.542/.474; he was third in the event in average behind Leonard Roberts and Antonio Briñez. [1] He batted .324 when the Dominicans took Silver in the 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games. [2] A teammate each year was Papito Vargas, who was also born R. Vargas (Rafael; Tetelito was Ramon).

He played in Colombia from 1947-1954 and also appeared in Puerto Rico, Panama and his native Dominican Republic, routinely topping .300. He also coached for the Águilas Cibaeñas. [3] In 1995, he made the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame. [4]
