1946 Central American and Caribbean Games
The 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games were the first Central American and Caribbean Games Cuba failed to win, after Gold Medals in the first four. The Games were held from December 9 through December 28 in Baranquilla, Colombia.
Colombia won Gold on their home turf, going 8-1 with two shutout wins over Cuba. Carlos "Petaca" Rodriguez went 3-0 to lead all pitchers in the Games. It was one of the brightest moments in Colombian baseball annals. They wouldn't win another Medal in the Games until 2018, when they were again held in Barranquilla.
Dominican Republic claimed Silver with a 5-4 record (1-1 in the final round to finish ahead of Cuba).
Cuba went 6-1 in the opening round but lost both final round games to finish with a Bronze. Willy Miranda hit .250 in his debut for the national team. Cuba got little offense, averaging under 3 runs per contest.
Venezuela and Puerto Rico tied for 4th at 3-3. C. Gonzalez of Puerto Rico had the best average, .478.
Mexico was 6th at 2-5.
Costa Rica placed last at 0-7.
