1938 Central American and Caribbean Games
Cuba won its fourth straight title, with a 5-1 record. Agapito Mayor took the headlines with a 4-0 record, the only pitcher in the history of the event to post such a record. Natilla Jimenez got Cuba's other win, a shutout over El Salvador in which Jimenez also homered.
Panama won Silver with a 4-2 performance; they had the top contact hitter (Eduardo Lanuza, .556) and top home run threat (listed as Osvaldo Arleuwite in Bjarkman, but likely Osvaldo Applewhite, the closest name for 1938 Panama in the CACG medal listings history, 2) in their second straight Silver Medal performance.
Nicaragua (4-2) won Bronze, followed by Puerto Rico (4-2), the only team to beat Cuba this year. José Antonio Figueroa got that win and also took the Gold in the javelin for the second straight Games. Mexico was 3-3 to finish 5th. Venezuela (1-5) was 6th, followed by last-place El Salvador (0-6).
