1986 Central American and Caribbean Games

From BR Bullpen

The 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games were held in late June and early July in the Dominican Republic. The host country could not repeat its performance of the prior Central American and Caribbean Games, when they had won Gold. Instead, they went just 2-5. The Cuban national team returned to its usual spot as the title winner with a 7-0 tournament. Flag of Netherlands Antilles Netherlands Antilles won Silver (4-3) followed by Flag of Venezuela Venezuela (4-3). Flag of Puerto Rico Puerto Rico (4-3), Flag of Nicaragua Nicaragua (3-4), Flag of Colombia Colombia (2-5) and Flag of Panama Panama (2-5) rounded out a closely matched field outside of the Cubans.

Top performers for Cuba included Luis Casanova (.500, a tourney-high 16 R), Orestes Kindelan (.533, the leader with 16 hits, 7 homers and 20 RBI), Omar Linares (.497), Antonio Pacheco (.440) and Lourdes Gourriel Sr. (.524). Diego Raudez of Nicaragua was a one-man team, going 3-0.
