2006 Central American and Caribbean Games
The 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Cartagena, Colombia in July of 2006.
Cuba took home Gold, going 7-0. Osmani Urrutia hit .556 to lead the round-robin phase, while Alexander Mayeta got the most hits (8). Alexei Ramirez and Eduardo Paret each had 2 steals. Other players were Giorvis Duvergel, Yulieski Gourriel, Rudy Reyes, Michel Enriquez, Ariel Pestano, Adiel Palma, Vicyohandry Odelin, Frederich Cepeda, Frank Montieth, Yoandy Garlobo, Yulieski Gonzalez, Eriel Sanchez, Yadiel Pedroso, Yadel Marti, Yunieski Maya and Pedro Luis Lazo.
Dominican Republic took Silver at 5-1.
Mexico split the Bronze at 4-2. They included former major leaguers Geronimo Gil, Mario Valdez, Roberto Ramirez, Victor Alvarez and Luis Garcia as well as future big leaguer Joakim Soria.
Venezuela also was 4-2 to tie for the Bronze.
Colombia was 2-2 as host.
Nicaragua went 2-3; they included former major leaguer Oswaldo Mairena and future major leaguer Wilton Lopez.
Panama was 1-4, as did
Puerto Rico. Former big leaguer Angel Miranda pitched for Puerto Rico.
The Bahamas finished 0-4, as did
Guatemala.
