Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Gómez made his major league debut in 2017.

He was signed by Tampa Bay Rays scout Eddy Toledo in 2010. He made his pro debut with the DSL Rays, going 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 8 games in 2010. In 2011, he pitched for the DSL Rays (2-1, 4.26 in 3 G), GCL Rays (3-4, 2.48 in 11 G) and Hudson Valley Renegades (1-0, 0 R in 7 IP). He was 5th in the Gulf Coast League in ERA (between Brad Watson and Bruedlin Suero) and was named the GCL Rays Player of the Year. In '12, he was excellent for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (9-3, 2.48). He nearly won the Midwest League ERA title (falling .02 behind leader Justin Nicolino) and led all Rays farmhands with 85+ IP. He also was 5th in the Rays chain in wins.

With the 2013 Charlotte Stone Crabs, he slipped to 5-8, 4.69 though he did throw a one-hitter. His struggles continued in 2014 with the GCL Rays (0-2, 7.04), Charlotte (1-2, 4.50 in 7 G) and the Montgomery Biscuits (2-4, 5.97 in 8 G). He finished his time in the Rays chain at 27-24, 3.58 in 91 games (78 starts). With the Dominican national team in the 2015 Pan American Games, he allowed 9 hits (3 homers), a walk and 6 runs (3 earned) in 4 2/3 IP. His 3 appearances tied Pedro De Los Santos for second on the team, one behind closer Luis Liria.

He died in his hometown of Santiago, Santiago at age 35 in December 2024, the victim of a car crash.
