Biographical Information[edit]

Silvio Martinez had one career save. It came on August 26, 1977 as a member of the Chicago White Sox against the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched the last 2 innings of a 4-2 victory, giving up 2 hits, no earned runs, no walks and no strikeouts.

He led the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games with 29 strikeouts, pitching for the Silver Medal-winning Dominican national team. He was 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA; in 21 1/3 IP, he allowed 13 hits and 5 walks. He got wins over El Salvador and the US Virgin Islands. He finished 7 whiffs ahead of runner-up Juan Pérez and tied for second in wins, one behind Pérez.

He pitched a one-hitter on July 8, 1978 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The lone hit was a 1st-inning single by Omar Moreno. He pitched another one-hitter on June 27, 1979 with the Cardinals against the Montreal Expos. The lone hit in that game was a 8th-inning single by Duffy Dyer.

He was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 1982 but only pitched four games at AAA for the Charleston Charlies. He was released in 1983 after failing to rebound from rotator cuff surgery. [1]
