The Charleston Charlies were an International League team from 1971 to 1983. The Charlies won league championships in 1973 and 1977. In 1984, the Indians moved their IL team to Maine where they became the Maine Guides. The Charlie nickname was not used by any other teams based in Charleston, West Virginia. In 1977 while an Astros affiliate, the team took on a number of Toronto Blue Jays prospects on loan, as the Jays did not yet have their own AAA affiliate. These loaned players included Ernie Whitt, Garth Iorg, and Rick Cerone.
