Biographical Information[edit]

Franquelis Osoria pitched in the major leagues from 2005 to 2008.

Osoria was signed by scouts Pablo Peguero and Ramon Perez for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent in Deceber 1999, and worked his way up the Dodger minor league organization. Other than in the rookie league, he has always been primarily a reliever. He was 3-4 with a 2.52 ERA for the 2000 DSL Dodgers. The next year, he was 4-4 with a 3.16 ERA for the same club. In 2002, he pitched in a full-season league for the first time. He was 2-2 with one save and a 3.32 ERA in 21 games for the South Georgia Waves and 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 3 outings for the Vero Beach Dodgers. The next year, the 21-year-old spent all year with Vero Beach, posting a 3-6 record with six saves and a 3.00 ERA. He walked 19 in 75 innings, showing good control, and made 3 starts in addition to his 30 relief appearances.

In 2004, he moved up to the Jacksonville Suns in the Southern League, and pitched 81 innings in 51 appearances, with an 8-5 record, 5 saves, and a 3.67 ERA.

He appeared briefly in Triple A in 2004 (a 6.48 ERA in 4 games), but spent most of 2005 there. Pitching for the Las Vegas 51s in the Pacific Coast League, he had an ERA of 2.62 in 40 appearances with 9 saves and a record of 6-4. He allowed a .299 average but walked only 13 in 55 innings. He came up for 24 games with the 2005 Los Angeles Dodgers, going 0-2 with a 3.94 ERA and allowing only a .140 average to right-handed hitters.

In 2006, he again had most of his appearances with Las Vegas - 44 of them, with an ERA of 4.35 and 2 saves and a record of 2-2. In the majors, he appeared in 12 games, allowing a 7.13 ERA and 27 saves in 17 2/3 innings, going 0-2. He did not pitch for LA after May 10.

Osoria was waived by Los Angeles after the season and picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Osoria went 2-5 with 11 saves and a 2.63 ERA in 39 games for the Indianapolis Indians and 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 25 outings for the 2007 Pirates.

That winter, Osoria had a save and 0.84 ERA in 14 games for the Aguilas Cibaenas, allowing a .150 average. He ended his US career in 2008, pitching briefly for Indianapolis (2-1, Sv, 3.55 in 10 G) but mainly for the Pirates (4-3, 6.08 in 43 G).
