Biographical Information[edit]

Joel Payamps pitched for the Dominican Republic national team at the 2015 Premier 12. He was originally signed by the Colorado Rockies in 2010, then signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a free agent in 2015. It was with the D-Backs that he made his major league debut late in the 2019 season. he gave up 2 runs in 4 innings in two appearances that first season, then spent most of 2020 at the team's alternative training site during the COVID-19-shortened season. He did make two more appearances, this time giving up 2 runs - 1 earned - in 3 innings of work.

Payamps was the subject of a tug-of-war following the 2020 season, as he changed teams a number of times, as he always seemed to be the last man on his team's major league roster. He was first claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox on November 25th, then just as spring training opened, claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays on February 10th. Two weeks later, on February 22nd, the Red Sox claimed him back, only to see the Blue Jays again claiming him back on March 6th. In spite of all this movement, he managed to make the Blue Jays' opening day roster, thanks to some late injuries. He made his first appearance for his new team on April 3rd.
