Biographical Information[edit]
Marcos Almonte has played in the minors and for the Dominican national team.
Almonte was signed by Houston Astros scouts Oz Ocampo, Roman Ocumarez and Jose Ortiz in February 2014. [1] He hit .236/.361/.355 between the DSL Astros Blue and DSL Astros Orange that summer, with 44 runs, 42 walks and 20 steals in 29 tries; he mainly played short but also saw action at second, third, left and center. He split 2015 between the two DSL teams (.277/.356/.441 in 43 games for the Astros Orange, .242/.324/.303 in 8 for the Astros Blue) and the GCL Astros (.299/.321/.364 in 19 G), stealing 19 bases in 27 attempts while mainly playing second.
In 2016, he was with the Tri-City ValleyCats (.223/.298/.298 in 31 G) and Greeneville Astros (.238/.286/.381 in 23 G), now being used in center for the most part. He hit .248/.276/.382 for the 2017 Quad Cities River Bandits with only 10 walks in 84 games; the utility man saw action at six different positions. He began 2018 with the River Bandits (.221/.276/.286 in 23 G) then was released; the Atlanta Braves signed him. [2] He then played for the Rome Braves (.197/.233/.262 in 39 G) and Danville Braves (2 for 4). He moved to the indy leagues in 2019, batting .257/.276/.338 for the Rockland Boulders, again in a utility role.
he played one game for the Dominicans in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, pinch-running for Wildert Pujols; he did not play in the field or come to the plate. [3]
