Biographical Information[edit]

Marcos Molina made it to AAA and pitched for the Dominican national team.

He signed by New York Mets scouts Deurys Nin and Gerardo Cabrera. [1] He made his pro debut that summer with the 2012 DSL Mets 1 (2-2, 3.78) and DSL Mets 2 (3-0, 3.27). Coming stateside with the GCL Mets the next summer, he posted a 4-3, 4.39 record. Moving up to the Brooklyn Cyclones, he went 7-3 with a 1.77 ERA, .84 WHIP, 91 K in 71 1/3 IP and .170 opponent average. He led the New York-Penn League in WHIP, opponent average, strikeouts (24 ahead of Joe Musgrove and Casey Meisner), wins (tied with Musgrove, Troy Scribner, Enderson Franco and Austin Pritcher) and ERA (.42 ahead of David Whitehead). After winning the pitching Triple Crown, Baseball America named him the league's top prospect. [2]

In 2015, he pitched for the St. Lucie Mets (1-5, 4.57) and GCL Mets (0 R in 3 IP). He missed the summer of 2016 after having Tommy John surgery. [3] He returned in the fall of 2016 with the Scottsdale Scorpions, posting a 3.78 ERA. During 2017, he pitched for St. Lucie (2-3, 1.26 in 5 G) and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-7, 3.92). He was 5th in the Mets chain in losses and 9th with 86 K (between Merandy González and Tyler Bashlor). In '18, he was with Binghamton (1-9, 6.66) and the Las Vegas 51s (0-1, 9.35 in 2 G) in a rough year. He tied Nabil Crismatt and David Peterson for 3rd in the Mets system in losses. He made his Dominican Winter League debut with the Gigantes del Cibao, going 0-1 with 3 runs (2 earned) in 6 innings.

Molina was signed by the Baltimore Orioles for 2019 and rebounded somewhat with the Bowie Baysox (4-6, 4.36) and Aberdeen Ironbirds (2 R in 4 IP), though not back to his 2014 form. He next surfaced with the Gigantes in 2020-2021, going 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA. He was a late injury replacement for the Dominican team for the 2020 Americas Olympic Qualifier (like the 2020 Olympics, it was pushed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but retained its 2020 title). [4] He pitched one game, starting against the Nicaraguan national team. He started slowly, giving up hits to Ismael Munguía and Brandon Leyton. Benjamín Alegría bunted and reached on a fielder's choice to load them up, then Jilton Calderón hit a sacrifice fly. Luis Alen grounded into a double play to end the threat, though, then the Dominicans scored two in the bottom half. Molina had a smoother 2nd, going 1-2-3 against Isaac Benard (GO), Emmanuel Meza (LO) and Norlando Valle (FO). Leuris Gómez took over in the third. [5]
