Biographical information

Frederick Torres is a former minor league baseball catcher who played from 1997 to 2002 in the Texas Rangers farm system. He returned to professional baseball in 2009, playing for the independent Camden Riversharks.

He was originally signed by the Rangers in 1996.

In 1997, he played in the Dominican Republic.

He played with the GCL Rangers in 1998, hitting .221 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 32 games. In 104 at-bats, he struck out 23 times and walked only five times. He greatly improved in 1999, as he hit .304 with eight home runs and 45 RBI in 60 games with the Pulaski Rangers. Like the year before, he barely walked at all. In 240 at-bats, he walked only seven times. He struck out 53 times. In 1999, he was named the best defensive catcher in the Rangers organization by Baseball America. He was an Appalachian League All-Star that year.

Playing for the Charlotte Rangers in 2000, Torres' production slipped and he hit only .236 with three home runs and 20 RBI. In 275 at-bats, he walked 19 times and had 65 strikeouts.

He played with Charlotte in both 2001 and 2002. In 2001, he hit only .248 with nine home runs and 52 RBI, and he walked 20 times and K'd 103 times in 407 at-bats. In 2002, he hit .240 with five home runs and 22 RBI. In 183 at-bats, he walked 11 times and had 43 strikeouts.

After not playing baseball professionally for over half a decade, Torres played for the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League in 2009. He batted .236 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Overall, Torres hit .253 with 28 home runs and 152 RBI in his five season career in affiliated ball. In 1,209 career at-bats, he walked only 62 times.
