Biographical information[edit]

Jose Fragoso pitched in the Detroit Tigers organization from 2003 to 2007 and in the Oakland Athletics chain in 2008. In 2009, he was signed by the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

Fragoso was signed by the Detroit Tigers a couple months before he turned 18. He made his pro debut with the 2003 DSL Tigers, striking out 90, 5th in the Dominican Summer League. With the '04 GCL Tigers, the right-hander was 3-3 with a save and a 3.07 ERA, striking out 33 in 29 1/3 innings. He tied Howar Zuleta for the Gulf Coast League lead in games pitched (23).

Jose went 6-2 with a 2.27 ERA and 49 K in 43 2/3 innings for the 2005 Oneonta Tigers. He was two wins shy of the New York-Penn League; had he qualified, he would have ranked 5th in the loop in ERA. He split 2006 between Oneonta (3-0, Sv, 1.50, 25 K in 24 IP, .133 opponent average) and the West Michigan Whitecaps (1-0, 2.33, 23 K in 19 1/3 IP, .154 opponent average). He was one of the hardest to hit pitchers in all of Organized Baseball that year.

In 2007, the Santiago native struggled with West Michigan (0-2, 7.82) and got demoted to Oneonta, where he was 2-4 with two saves and a 3.77 ERA, striking out 53 in 43 innings.

The A's claimed Fragoso in the minor league portion of the 2007 Rule V Draft that winter. He split 2008 between the Kane County Cougars (1-0, save, 0 R, 2 H, 12 K in 5 2/3 IP) and the Stockton Ports (3-3, 4.44).
