Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Marco Hernandez began his professional career in 2010 in the Chicago Cubs system at 17 years old. He was signed by scouts Jose Serra and Jose Estevez.
A low-power, low-on-base percentage player, Hernandez showed good speed on the base paths, stealing twenty or more bags at the minor league level three times through 2014. In December 2014, he was sent as the player to be named later to the Boston Red Sox in a transaction that sent pitcher Felix Doubront to the Cubs. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2015.
Entering 2016, he was ranked the #16 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America. He debuted in the majors on April 17th, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a walk against pitcher Aaron Sanchez and the Toronto Blue Jays.
