Biographical Information[edit]

Adonis Rosa is one of four major leaguers (through 2020) with the name Adonis. All of them broke in during the 21st Century, except Adonis Terry, a 19th Century pitcher. The name is derived from that of a Phoenician deity.

Like Adonis Terry, Rosa is a pitcher. He pitched two innings for the New York Yankees in 2019, and because there was no minor league season in 2020, did not appear in the USA that year. The Yankees released him on September 5th, a couple of months before his 25th birthday.

Rosa, from the Dominican Republic, began in the rookie league at age 19, and has mostly been a starter in the USA-based minors although he usually has been a reliever when pitching in the Dominican Winter League. Although he had cups of coffee at the AA and AAA minor league levels, he was mostly in the lower minors until 2019, when he pitched 12 games in AA and 13 in AAA. He was 6-0 with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the International League.
