Waseda University is one of the major powers of Japanese collegiate baseball. Their primary rival is the Keio University club. They won the All-Japan University Baseball Championship in 2007 behind freshman pitcher Yuki Saito. Isoo Abe organized the school's first baseball team in 1901 and remained active with the baseball program through 1925 at least; their ballpark was named after him. They won 48 titles in the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League, and they also held the league record for highest team batting average (.347, 2003 Spring) and most runs in a season (100, 2003 Spring).
In the spring of 1905, they became the first foreign team to tour the United States, playing a total of 26 games in Western states.
