Biographical Information

Motohiro Ando was a submarine pitcher who spent three seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Ando had a 35-21 record in college. In 1962, Ando was 13-8 with a 2.32 ERA in 47 games for the Toei Flyers. The rookie was third in the Pacific League behind Osamu Kubota and Kazuhisa Inao. He lost Rookie of the Year honors to Yukio Ozaki, who had a slightly worse ERA but better record. He then went 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA in the 1962 Japan Series, walking none in 15 2/3 IP. Toei won the title but the Japan Series MVP honors were split between Masayuki Dobashi and Masayuki Tanemo.

Motohiro fell to 3-7, 4.71 in 1963. After a year off, he allowed 8 runs (6 earned) in 15 innings in 1965, going 1-1. Overall, he had a 17-16, 2.93 record. After baseball, he worked in the food and construction sectors.
