Biographical Information

Yasuo Otsuka has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Otsuka was on the Japanese national team in the 1965 Asian Championship as the country won its fourth title. The Tokyo Orions drafted him in the first round of the 1965 NPB draft, the first draft ever in NPB history. Otsuka shared the starting catcher spot with Takeo Daigo when he joined the team. He hit .171/.200/.219 in 1967, then played a career-high 71 games with a .186/.281/.265 batting line in 1968. However, his poor batting caused him to lose the competition with Daigo, and he only had 85 at-bats in the next four seasons as Daigo's backup. Otsuka announced his retirement after the 1972 season.

Overall, Otsuka had hit .178/.246/.250 in 7 seasons in NPB.
