Biographical Information[edit]
Takahisa Hayakawa has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Hayakawa represented Japan in the 2016 BFA U18 Baseball Championship. The Chiba Lotte Marines, Rakuten Golden Eagles, Yakult Swallows and Seibu Lions all drafted him in the first round of the 2020 NPB draft, and the Golden Eagles won the lottery for his rights. [1] He soon joined the rotation as a rookie, having a 9-7 record with a 3.86 ERA in 24 starts. He got 4 votes for the 2021 Pacific League Rookie of the Year Award, finishing third behind Hiroya Miyagi's 255 votes and Hiromi Itoh's 21. [2]
He extended his solid pitching, having a 3.86 ERA again with a 5-9 record in 2022. He led the Pacific League with 19 homers allowed. The young southpaw suffered a left elbow injury after the 2022 season, so he only started 17 games in 2023. He still had a 6-7 record with a 3.44 ERA, then he made it onto Japan's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He started against Australia, and pitched five perfect innings. [3]
Hayakawa's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 93.2 mph, a slider, cutter, curveball and a changeup.
