Shintaro Ejiri has pitched for the Nippon Ham Fighters.
Ejiri spent two years after high school to study for entrance exams for Keio University and Waseda University. He got the 1,000th win in Waseda's history but was only 4-6 overall in college.
Ejiri was a second-round pick of the Nippon Ham Fighters in 2001 NPB draft. He debuted in Nippon Pro Baseball in 2002, allowing one run in 1 2/3 IP. He was 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA in 3 games in 2003. On his birthday that year, he threw a no-hitter in the minors.
Shintaro had a 5-1, 5.29 record in 2004 and 6-4, 5.79 in 2005, allowing a .322 average. He went 4-4 with a 4.47 ERA in 2006 but did not appear in the 2006 Japan Series.
Ejiri was 7-4 with a save and a 3.33 ERA in 42 games in 2007. Ejiri injured his elbow that year and had Tommy John surgery. He returned in 2009 to go 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA In 45 outings.
