Biographical Information[edit]
Chujun Tobita was a baseball player and coach and sportswriter.
Tobita played second base for Waseda and coached them from 1920-1925; they beat the University of Chicago in 1925. He wrote several books about baseball and was a sports columnist for the Yomiuri Shimbun and Asahi Shimbun, emphasizing a spiritual aspect of baseball and decrying the Bushido/samurai baseball approach. He was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1960. He was only the second living person to be elected, following Matsutaro Shoriki.
