Biographical Information[edit]

Katsutoshi Satake has pitched for the Japanese national team.

The bespectacled hurler debuted for Japan in the 2014 Asian Games, already 30 years old. He pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks while fanning two. He got the start in a combined shutout against China and fared well in relief in a Japanese loss to Taiwan. In the Bronze Medal game, the right-hander finished up Japan's 10-0 win over China. Only Ryota Sekiya worked more innings for Japan in the Games.

He was MVP of the 2014 industrial league championship, starring for Toyota, including a 10-inning shutout (12 K) no-decision against JR Higashi in the quarterfinals and a four-hit whitewash in the finale. In the 2015 Asian Championship, he got the call against eventual champion South Korea and blanked them for 7 innings (4 H, 1 BB, 7 K), leaving with a 1-0 lead but his bullpen blew it. He worked the most innings of any Japanese hurler who did not allow a run in that event. He was back in the 2017 Asian Championship, allowing one hit in one inning in his lone game, saving Masaki Tanigawa's win over South Korea in their closest victory.
