Biographical Information[edit]
Masatoshi Matsuoka was an infielder in Nippon Pro Baseball for six years.
He hit .237/.294/.324 as a rookie for the Toei Flyers in 1956, seeing regular action while rotating between 3B, 2B and SS. On October 8, he set a Pacific League record with nine putouts at second base (the record was later broken). In 1957, he slumped to .226/.301/.292 in 74 games. He hit .224/.285/.316 in 1958, .278/.320/.382 in 1959 and .274/.313/.354 in 1960. Having been a regular at second for several years, he fell behind Jack Ladra and Masao Inagaki on the depth chart in 1961, going 7 for 38 with two doubles and two walks. Overall, he hit .244/.298/.330 in 554 NPB games, with 143 runs and 134 RBI.
