The team's manager that year, he pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 6 walks, 5 runs (one earned), striking out two and throwing one wild pitch. He was 0 for 1 at the plate. The team finished only 25-59-1 that year, last in the circuit. They improved to 49-50-6 in 1942, then were 41-36-7 the next year, finishing in third place. He managed Chubu Nihon in 1946 to a 13-21-2 mark and was fired on July 13.
