Biographical Information[edit]
Hiromichi Nakamura was a Pacific League umpires, working 2,121 games. He was the home plate umpire when Isao Harimoto became the only NPB player with 3,000 career hits. He worked the 1971 NPB All-Star Games, 1977 NPB All-Star Games and 1982 NPB All-Star Games. He was fluent in English and kept up on the latest umpire technology, bringing the inside protector to Japan in the mid-1970s for instance, after one of his trips to the US. He was a baseball commentator and sportswriter after retiring as an umpire, an unusual gig for a former ump.
