Biographical Information[edit]

Daisuke Ochi had an excellent debut in Nippon Pro Baseball in 2008.

Ochi went 15-5 in college and was picked in the 4th round of the 2005 NPB draft by the Yomiuri Giants. The right-hander spent time in the minors before making his debut with the Giants' top club in 2008. That season, he pitched 68 games, going 3-3 with a 2.40 ERA. In 71 1/3 innings, he allowed only 54 hits while striking out an incredible 101 batters. He walked 29 and threw 15 wild pitches. He was one appearance behind Tomoyuki Kubota for the Central League lead and led the CL in wild pitches; surprisingly, the runner-up was also a Yomiuri reliever, Marc Kroon.

Ochi throws a slider, forkball and a fastball (timed between 87 and 96.3 mph).
