Tokichiro Ishii (石井 藤吉郎)

Biographical Information[edit]

Tokichiro Ishii was the clean-up hitter for Waseda University when they won four consecutive Tokyo Big6 Baseball League championships. He was also on the Daishowa Seishi squad that won the 1953 Intercity Baseball Tournament. Ishii was the Waseda manager from 1964 to 1973. He also managed the All-Japan team in the 1972 and 1974 Japan-U.S. University Baseball Championships and managed the Japanese national team to a title in the 1965 Asian Championship, a Bronze Medal in the 1980 Amateur World Series and Silver in the 1982 Amateur World Series.

Ishii was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.
