Toshiaki Ogata pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Ogata was signed by the Yomiuri Giants in 1947, and he was 3-1 with a 1.74 ERA in his rookie year. He went 2-6 with a 3.20 ERA in 1948, and he had a 6.60 ERA in 6 games in 1949. Ogata jumped to the Nishi-Nippon Pirates when they were founded in 1950, and he got the first strikeout of the new Central League. He ended up 20-13 with a 2.98 ERA in 1950, ranking 7th in ERA (between Tsuguhiro Hattori and Juzo Sanada), 8th in complete games (between Shigeru Sugishita and Hattori) and 8th in wins (tied with Nobuo Oshima).
When the Pirates were expelled after the 1950 season, Ogata signed with the Nishitetsu Lions, and he was 11-8 with a 2.61 ERA in 1951. He led the Pacific League with 46 appearances, ranking 7th in strikeouts (between Giichi Hayashi and Fumio Takechi) and 10th in ERA (between Hayashi and Toshio Takamatsu). The Lions then traded him with Yasuhiro Fukami to the Tokyu Flyers for Hiroshi Ohshita, and he was 10-13 with a 4.47 ERA in 1952. Ogata had a 4-8 record with a 3.03 ERA in 1953, and he went 3-10 with a 3.97 ERA in 1954. He only pitched 7 games with a 9.00 ERA in 1955, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Ogata was 53-62 with a 3.33 ERA, struck out 389 and pitched 1,040 innings in 9 years in NPB. He got a win against 15 different teams, and that is still the NPB record and it may not be broken ever.
