Nippon Professional Baseball[edit]
The league splits into the Central and Pacific Leagues. The expanded Nippon Professional Baseball system doubles the number of teams from seven to fifteen. The first Nippon Series is played as well.

In the first Nippon Series, the Mainichi Orions (PL) defeated the Taiyo Robins (CL), 4 games to 2. The winning manager was Yoshio Yuasa and the series MVP was Kaoru Betto.
Award Winners[edit]
The winner of the 1950 Sawamura Award was Juzo Sanada of the Shochiku Robins. He had a 39 - 12 win-loss record, 191 strikeouts, and a 3.05 ERA in 395.2 innings.

High School Baseball[edit]
The 32nd National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 1536 schools competing for 23 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Matsuyama Higashi High School (Ehime) defeated Naruto High School (Tokushima) by a score of 12 - 8.
The 22nd National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament featured 16 schools competing in the tournament at Koshien. In the championship game Nirayama High School (Shizuoka) defeated Kochi Shogyo High School (Kochi) by a score of 4 - 1.
