Biographical Information[edit]

Yukichi Nagatoshi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Nagatoshi was signed by the Hankyu Braves in 1948, but he only got 48 at-bats with a .238/.333/.333 batting line in his rookie year. He hit .229/.297/.312 in 1949, and he jumped to the newly-founded Nishi-Nippon Pirates in 1950. Nagatoshi broke out after changing team, and he hit .304/.405/.519 with a career-high 21 homers. He led the Central League with 12 triples, tying Tokuzo Harada and Shoji Arakawa. The Pirates were expelled after the 1950 season, and Nagatoshi signed with the Nishitetsu Lions.

The Fukuoka native hit .294/.420/.550 with 14 homers in 1951, ranking 6th in homers (12 behind Hiroshi Oshita) and 2nd in triples (tied with Kaoru Betto and Noboru Tsunemi) in the Pacific League. However, he slumped to .218/.333/.395 in 1952, then he recorded a .219/.324/.351 batting line in 1953. Nagatoshi struggled in as his batting line was .185/.306/.270 in 1954, then he announced his retirement after hitting .184/.250/.313 in 1955. He committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a train in 1962.

Overall, Nagatoshi hit .247/.352/.415 with 450 hits and 59 homers in 8 years in NPB.
