Biographical Information[edit]

Takeshi Nomura pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Nomura was signed by the Senators team in 1946, but he only pitched 3 games for them then he left the team. He then pitched for amateur teams for 3 years, and he joined the Mainichi Orions in 1950 when Japanese pro ball expanded. Nomura was 18-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 1950, and he was the first pitcher to lead the Pacific League in winning percentage. He also tied Giichi Hayashi and Yoshio Tenbo for 5th in wins. In the 1950 Nippon Series, Nomura completed Game 2 while only allowing an unearned run, and he got the win over Takashi Eda. He then started in Game 5, and he completed the game again with 2 runs allowed to outduel Juzo Sanada. Nomura succeeded Tadashi Wakabayashi in the 8th inning of Game 6, and he pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings. The Orions beat the Shochiku Robins thanks to Sanada's clutch error, and Nomura won his only Nippon Series title.

The Gifu native then attended the 1951 NPB All-Star Games, and he pitched 3 shutout inning with a strikeout against Shigeru Chiba as the starter of Game 2. He then relieved Tokuji Kawasaki in the 4th inning, and he pitched 3 innings with a solo shot allowed to Chiba. Nomura ended up 13-12 with a 2.51 ERA in 1951, ranking 8th in ERA (between Nobuo Nakatani and Hayashi), 6th in wins (11 behind Haruyasu Eto) and 7th in complete games (16 behind Yasuo Yonekawa). He was selected into the 1952 NPB All-Star Games, and he pitched 3 shutout innings in both Game 1 and 2. He was 16-9 with a 2.76 ERA in 1952, ranking 4th in wins (tied with Takeo Hattori) and 6th in ERA (between Kawasaki and Hiroshi Nakahara).

Nomura was 3-9 with a 3.32 in 1953, then he jumped to the newly-founded Takahashi Unions in 1954. He was 15-23 with a 3.24 ERA in 1954, and he led the league in losses, starts, hits allowed and runs allowed. He also tied Junzo Sekine for 4th in complete games with 19. He was 6-12 with a 4.42 ERA in 1955, then he went back to the Orions in 1956. Nomura only pitched 14 games with a 3.60 ERA in 1956, then he announced his retirement. He was a member of the congress of Funabashi City from 1959 to 1983.

Overall, Nomura was 73-73 with a 3.20 ERA, struck out 376 and pitched 1,199 2/3 innings in 8 years in NPB.
