The Mainichi Orions were inaugural members of the Pacific League in 1950 and were impressive that first season, going 81-34 to take the pennant, then sweeping the Shochiku Robins in the first Japan Series. The team remained mostly competitive for the rest of its existence, finishing just one game back of the PL pennant in 1952. Before the 1958 season, they merged with the Daiei Unions to form the Daimai Orions.
