Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshio Yuasa was the first manager in Nippon Pro Baseball history to win a Nippon Series.

Yuasa was invited to join the newly founded Mainichi Orions as their manager when they were founded in 1950. On November 5, Yuasa activated himself as the starter in the late season and the pennant was determined. Their opponent Hankyu Braves also sent their manager Shinji Hamazaki to the mound, and those two starters set the NPB record for oldest duo to start at 96 years. The Orions won the Pacific League pennant with 81-34-5 record, and they beat the Shochiku Robins in the 1950 Nippon Series to win the first Nippon Series title ever. The Orions only had a .514 winning percentage in 1951, then they were involved in the Heiwadai incident the next season. Yuasa resigned to take responsibility for the incident, and his career ended.

Overall, Yuasa was 180-117 with a pennant in his 3-year managing career in NPB.
