Professional Baseball[edit]

High School Baseball[edit]

The 8th National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 229 schools competing for 17 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Wakayama High School (Wakayama) defeated Kobe Shogyo High School (Hyogo) by a score of 8 - 4.

University Baseball[edit]

Hitotsubashi University, Osaka University of Foreign Studies, and Toyo University form baseball clubs.

International Baseball[edit]

The Herb Hunter All-Stars toured Japan in 1922. The touring team went 15 - 1 - 0 against Japanese competition. The signal win by the Japanese team came on November 19 at Shibaura Stadium. The Mita Club, made up of Keio University alumni, defeated the torung club 9 to 3. The tourists included Major Leaguers George Kelly, Herb Pennock, Luke Sewell, Casey Stengel, and pitcher Waite Hoyt. Hall of Famer Michimaro Ono gave up only five hits and four walks while catcher Zensuke Shimada hit a home run off Hoyt to seal the victory.
