Biographical Information[edit]
Zensuke Shimada was a catcher in Japan. He played for the Mita Club after he finished college. In 1922, he hit a home run off Waite Hoyt as the Mita Club beat a team of visiting major leaguers, 9-3; it was the first a Japanese squad had beaten a team of American major leaguers. The Herb Hunter All-Stars included Luke Sewell, Riggs Stephenson, Irish Meusel, George Kelly, Casey Stengel and Bibb Falk as well as Hoyt. In 1969, he was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
