Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Luke Sewell, in addition to playing 20 years in the majors, is also remembered as the manager of the St. Louis Browns in 1944, the only year the team went to the World Series.
He is the brother of Hall of Famer Joe Sewell and of Tommy Sewell, and cousin of Rip Sewell.
Sewell also spent several seasons with Cleveland as a coach and one season as a coach in Cincinnati before taking over as the Reds skipper in 1949. He was a minor league manager from 1954 to 1956, the first two years with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the final year (partial) with the Seattle Rainiers.
